Wisconsin Tales of the Cryptids

From the infamous bull-horned Hodag to the Beast of Bray Road & the Goat Men of Kettle Moraine, hear stories about the ghouls lurking in the shadows of our less-traveled regions.

Haunted History

Death was no stranger to those of the past. Explore the connections between legends, immigrant myths and Victorian superstitions, and the suffering of the unfortunate souls who lived before.

Scary Folktales Come to Life

Wisconsin immigrants brought countless tales and superstitions with them. From the Slavic folktale of Baba Yaga to the story of the Austrian Nachtkrapp, experience the legends that kept your ancestors awake at night.

Our popular bonfire stories return. Sit by crackling flames and listen close as performers share a supernatural seasonal tale the whole family will enjoy.

Laundress of the Dead

When departing souls take their final breaths, who stands by to wash their dress? Peek into the home of the Laundress of the Dead, the Scot-Irish legend who prepares the garments of those about to pass.

Are you brave enough to partake in an authentic Victorian séance? Bold enough to attend a haunted 19th-century funeral? Adventurous enough to eavesdrop on fireside stories about infamous ghosts and ghouls?

Take part in family-friendly Halloween activities! From ghoulish photo opportunities and haunted hodag hunts, to ghostly games, there’s fun down every path.

Mysterious Characters

Watch out for monsters and ghosts as you walk the shadowed paths of Legends & Lore. These creatures of myth and spirits of old will be sure to scare (or make a great photo)!

The Crossroads Village Creamery, Caldwell Hall and food trucks feature a range of food & drink options. Enjoy a special seasonal beer made for Legends & Lore, along with other local brews.

Silent Films

Clausing Barn

Come early and make a meal of it! Starting at 3PM, head to the Entrance Green — with Brewhouse, Ramsey, Wittenbel’s, and the Café all open for your favorite fall eats. While you dine, spine-chilling silent films will flicker inside the enchanting octagonal Clausing Barn. Perfect way to kick off a hauntingly good evening.
